Lincolnton City Elections were held Nov 3, 2009

Winner!

Mayor:        JOHN O. GILLELAND, JR. (2 year term)
                            119 Labans Lane
                            Lincolnton, NC 28092
                            704-735-9221 (Home)

John has lived in Lincolnton for most of his 49 years. Now the president of Gilleland and Associates, a realty estate investment and property management company, he is a 1978 graduate of Lincolnton High School and earned a B.A. from UNC-Charlotte in 1982.

He is a former school board member, an elder at Freedom Church, treasurer of the Optimist Club and on the board of the Lincoln Country Club.

Gilleland promised to “work to control taxes, water and sewer rates in order to ease the burden on senior citizens and encourage new business.”

Winner! (but under protest by Democrats)

Ward 1:      TIM SHAIN (4 year term)
                            811 North Oak Street
                            Lincolnton, NC 28092
                            704-732-3292 (Work)

Shain, originally from the Louisville, Ky, area, has lived in Lincoln County for about 18 years and currently resides on North Oak Street. A former U.S. Marine, Shain is director of global engineering services for the wireless division at Commscope in Hickory.

Shain believes his experience in running a large business organization will be valuable if he is elected.

Close but no cigar (82 votes shy)

Ward 3:      JERRY (JAY) THOMAS (4 year term)
                           913 South Aspen Street
                           Lincolnton, NC 28092
                           704-732-8741

Thomas, who has worked for Bowe Bell+Howell Company for 25 years, has lived in Lincolnton for about six years and resides on South Aspen Street.

He is a 1983 graduate of the Control Data Institute in St. Louis, Mo.

Thomas' goals if elected include eliminating waste, boosting efficiency using modern business management concepts, avoiding tax and utility rate increases, doing right by city employees and recruiting new industrial employers and home construction to the city.

Although filing in conjunction with the Republicans, Thomas was actually registered as an unaffiliated voter.  He was registered for a long time as a Republican, but changed in order to vote in the last Mayoral primary.  Since the election he has changed his affiliation to Republican.
